The solution was to store them locally and then include then directly rather than from the CDN each time. Add the library before you start the script. You can add any of these following CDN to start it. If you want any other Jquery cdn version check this link. I had the exact same problem and none of these solutions above helped. Hope this helps. In my case I had this referenceError as the order of script calls was wrong. Solved that by changing the order:.

Version: webpack 3. Currently I have a single DLL, its getting quite big, which means that "time to interactive" when I refresh pages is getting really long So I thought it may be possible to split the DLL into similar small chunks as my PROD build pure CommonsChunkPlugin Not sure if this is a supported scenario, it was eluded to here: comment The split I want is, one chunk for homepage, one chunk for standard pages and another chunk for "editing" pages This seems to work, the DLL compiles, the DLL can be used by DllReferencePlugin without webpack generation errors, the modules are split to the expected files with no duplicatations.
However if I try to use it in the browser, I get a reference failure. Anyway you don't need that. Just compile multiple DLLs with different content. This way you can updated them individually. Why is this not supported? I don't know what you mean by "multiple DLLs with different content". The use case here is to speed up compile times by not recompiling vendor chunks which don't change often.
Does the author have to explicitly define all assets to be used in the Dll? That would be a cumbersome process. Skip to content.

I get the error on Chrome I'd imagine it would be better to have a more straight-forward approach to newcomers so that they don't have to worry about special instructions for a simple "hello world" example.
That's just my opinion. Well, you could start by rewrting the example so its just a copy paste. That would include the html I guess. And if you need to include a file, then Also the example doesn't say download the whole git repository, it just says: "Download the minified library and include it in your html.
If you are having problems with that, you're going to get stuck easily when things don't work later in the process. I totally get what you're saying and it's reasonable, but the way you're saying it is just plain insulting. Btw, keep in mind that, on the internets, you may be dealing with someone that is not native english and won't have the same level of touch that you may have when writing. That person may be just trying to share information, or just help to solve a problem.
That person may also have his own problems but still want to help others somehow.
Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined
So choose, be annoyed and ungrateful because the tone used wasn't friendly, or sad because there was no reply at all. I know how boring it is to do documentation for an opensource project. I'm doing a new project now. I'm scared of going official with it for this very reason. I believe a working "hello world" example would be cooler than a short but broken one.GitHub is home to over 40 million developers working together to host and review code, manage projects, and build software together.

I have added another function, which is the reason this error is giving. Please use developer tools to debug the HTML source. The intent of the code is not clear so I'm not sure how to help you as null should be handled in the server not the client.
The problem I am facing is that, I have already defined the function, still its giving function not defined. ACtually there used to be 1 function in a script, but now as I have added another one, the first one is not working and saying You tried F12 Console when the page loads?
Could ie be that you have a compile time error which prevents the correct compilation of this function? Aug 06, PM bruce sqlwork. You have syntax errors. The first step is to fix the syntax errors as clearly and openly recommended in my first post. Reposting the same error will not magically change the outcome. The code might work after fixing the syntax error. But, you are using a layout page and the posted View has head and style elements.
Make sure you do not have the same function in another file. We cannot see that code and can only guess. The code is very difficult to understand due to the many syntax and logical errors.
We can only guess the actual intention. Please debug your code or explain the intention. Print Share Twitter Facebook Email. For example You'll need to debug the code or provide a bit more information. ACtually there used to be 1 function in a script, but now as I have added another one, the first one is not working and saying :- Uncaught ReferenceError: function is not defined what to do, how to use both the functions.
But the browser says "ReferenceError: value is not defined". However if I go to the browser console and input either.
It's declared inside a closure, which means it can only be accessed there. If you want a variable accessible globally, you can remove the var :.
Variables are available only in the scope you defined them. If you define a variable inside a function, you won't be able to access it outside of it. Define variable with var outside the function and of course before it and then assign 10 to it inside function:. Note that you shouldn't omit the first line in this code var value;because otherwise you are assigning value to undefined variable. This is bad coding practice and will not work in strict mode.
You can't assign value to variable that you haven't defined. If you want to execute something immediately, you don't need it, otherwise beware that if you run it before DOM has loaded, value will be undefined until it has loaded, so console.
In other words, it would execute in following order:. Learn more. ReferenceError: variable is not defined Ask Question. Asked 6 years, 9 months ago. Active 3 months ago. Viewed 95k times.
